Marcedes Lewis Regatta

The Marcedes Lewis Foundation's mission is to foster academic, social and emotional growth in students by stressing the importance of maintaining good grades in school, promoting cooperative learning and teamwork and emphasizing sports as a means of building self confidence.   Each year the ML Foundation teams up with the Long Beach Sailing Foundation and the Boys& Girls Clubs of Long Beach to host the Marcedes Lewis Foundation Invitational Regatta.

This signature event was first held in the summer of 2011 with the goal to steer the way for area youth to experience the challenge and excitement of sailing.   The day begins at Long Beach Yacht Club with a chalk talk for all the participants.  They learn the basics of sailing and on the water safety.   Each B&G Club team receives their team shirts,  is assigned to their Catalina 37 sailboat and their team of coaches.  The teams grab their lunches and head out on water to check out the race course and practice what they have learned.  The highlight of the time on the water is a fleet race back to LBYC.  The day culminates in an award ceremony and a burger bash for all the participants and coaches.

A good time is had by all....
